The PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system software update may include security patches, new or revised settings and features and other items, which will change your current operating system. We encourage you to check this page from time to time for software updates and to always maintain your system to use the latest version of the system software.
An update to the PSP® system software was released on April 8, 2008. You can use this update to upgrade your system software to version 3.95.
- This update is for customers who own PSP® systems with model numbers PSP-1001 and PSP-2001, sold in North America. DO NOT update your PSP® system through this Web site if you purchased your system outside North America. There is no guarantee of proper operation with models sold outside North America.
- Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PSP® system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PSP® system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PSP® system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.
- For customers using PSP® system software version 2.80 or earlier:
PSP® systems with system software version 2.80 or earlier do not correctly recognize high-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo™ with more than 4 GB of free (recordable) memory space. - The system software included within this product is subject to a limited license from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Refer to http://www.scei.co.jp/psp-eula for further details.
- If your PSP® system software version is 3.95 (or later), you do not need to perform this update. To check the version of your system software, go to
(Settings) > [System Settings] > [System Information]. The information is shown in the [System Software] field. - Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the system software.
- This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.
- To connect to the Internet using your system, you must be within range of a wireless access point (or hotspot) that allows connections to the Internet.
- Depending on your PSP® system software version, the screen images and icons appearing on this Web site may differ from the actual product.
- Some of the features and functions described in this Web site are applicable only to PSP-2000 series systems.
New for 3.95: A new option for playing PlayStation® format software has been added. You can now select [Custom] for the assignment pattern under Assign Buttons.

New for 3.95: You can now choose either [Quit and Turn Off the PS3™ System] or [Quit Without Turning Off the PS3™ System] after you select [Quit Remote Play].

Downloading Through PC
(Go to the bottom to download the latest Firmware)
- Prepare to save the update data on Memory Stick Duo™ media using one of the following methods:
- Connect the PSP® system to the PC using a commercially available USB cable
- Connect a commercially available Memory Stick USB reader/writer to the PC
- Use the Memory Stick slot on the PC
- Create a folder for the update data on the Memory Stick Duo™ media.
Using your PC, create a folder named "PSP" on the Memory Stick Duo™ media. Within the "PSP" folder, create a folder named "GAME". Within the "GAME" folder, create a folder named "UPDATE". (Folder names must be in all uppercase letters).

- Download the update data and save it in the "UPDATE" folder created in step 2.
Notice
You must save the downloaded data as noted in these instructions. If you do not save in the correct location and with the filename shown below, the system will not recognize the update data.
- Location: Save in the "UPDATE" folder
- Filename: Save as filename "EBOOT.PBP"
- Fully charge the battery.
- Connect the AC adaptor to the PSP® system and plug it into an electrical outlet.
- Do not remove the AC adaptor.
- Do not turn off the system or remove the Memory Stick Duo™ media.

Before starting the update, you must do the following:
During the update: If an update is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing to repair or exchange.
- Insert the Memory Stick Duo™ media containing the update data in the PSP® system.
- Start the update data.
Select
(Memory Stick) under
(Game) from the home menu, and then select
. Press the
button to start the update.

- Confirm that the update was successful.
After the update has been completed, select [System Settings] under
(Settings) from the home menu, and then select [System Information]. If the [System Software] field displays the version number of the update, the update was successful.

Hint:
After the update has been successfully completed, you can delete the update data from the Memory Stick Duo™ media.
