MEMORY STICK DUO/Pro Duo

The Memory Stick Duo™ is the storage media used by the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. Formatting a Memory Stick Duo™ creates folders on it that are necessary for storing and using all your PSP data, including game data and music, video and image files. You should format your Memory Stick Duo™ before using it for the first time. Also, if you are having trouble accessing saved files, you might try reformatting the Memory Stick Duo™ where the files are saved.

ALERT: All existing data on the Memory Stick Duo™ will be erased during the formatting process. Make sure that before you format, you have made a back-up of any files you want to keep. For more information, see Saving to a Memory Stick Duo™ Using a Computer.

To format your Memory Stick Duo™:

  1. Insert your Memory Stick Duo™ into your PSP®.
  2. Press the Home button to display the home menu.
  3. Select System Settings Icon(System Settings) under Settings Icon(Settings) from the home menu, and press X Button.
  4. Select Format Memory Stick and press X Button.
  5. Select Yes and press X Button to confirm.
  6. Select Yes and press X Button again to confirm that you understand that all data on the Memory Stick Duo™ will be deleted in order to proceed.

Note: Do not format a Memory Stick Duo™ or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ on a computer. The PSP® might not recognize a Memory Stick Duo™ or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ that has been formatted on a computer.

Battery Pack

  1. Plug the AC power cord into the AC adaptor.
  2. Connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN 5V connector located at the bottom right of the PSP®.
  3. Plug the AC power cord into a working electrical outlet. Make sure the power indicator light turns orange, indicating that charging has begun.

NOTE: Do not plug the AC power cord into the electrical outlet until you have made all other connections.

  4. When the battery pack is fully charged, the power indicator light will turn off.
  5. Unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet and disconnect the AC adaptor from the PSP®.

  1. To remove the battery pack cover, hold down the Push button on the back of the PSP® and slide the cover as indicated.
  2. Insert the battery pack by aligning the bottom of the battery pack with the PSP®.
  3. To replace the battery pack cover, align the tabs of the cover with the spaces on the PSP® and slide the battery cover until it locks firmly in place.

NOTE: If the PSP® is left unused after the battery pack has been removed, the date and time settings might be reset. If this occurs, the date and time setting screen will be displayed the next time the PSP® is turned on.

LCD Screen

  • Direct exposure to sunlight may damage the system's LCD screen.  Please be careful when using the system outdoors or near a window.

  • When using the system in a cold environment, you may notice shadows on the graphics or the screen may appear darker than usual.  This is not a malfunction; the screen will return to normal when the temperature goes up.

  • Do not leave still images displayed on the screen for an extended period of time.  This may cause a faint image to be left permanently on the screen.

  • If the PSP system is brought directly from a cold location to a warm one, moisture may condense on the inside of the LCD screen window. Should this occur, please turn off and unplug the system, and let the system stand at room temperature with the UMD door open until the moisture evaporates (this may take several hours).
